The team has decided to do exploratory surgery and take a look inside to see if they can visually determine the cause of Fred's issues and fix them. They called it a "wash out" and Fred said "Oh, like a #3 at the car wash!" and managed to get a laugh out of the VERY SERIOUS team during rounds.
He is in surgery now. I will get updates hourly and pass them along. Praying.

Update: they are closing right now. I have some new gray hairs but it is the best case scenario for Fred. They did a standard wash out and removed some of the blood that was pooling in Fred's abdomen. The two hematomas look stable and they did a doplar on his portal vein and there is good flow. They do not need to redo any blood vessels or do any repairs. Hopefully this will make his new liver happy and his kidneys happy ... and make Fred more comfortable. Not really a big setback. More of a bridge to recovery. Praise the Lord!
ReplyDeleteAny idea where the blood pooling on his abdomen is coming from? I love reading "a bridge to brecovery".... that is chalk full of all kinds of good stuff. Will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it's a "minor" setback and visualizing you both walking on that bridge together. Prayers and love coming your way.
ReplyDeleteNot so quick!!! Well I went back to Fred's room and they had cleared it out. That was the first time I actually had a meltdown. For real. Once the flood gates opened I could not control them. It took me a while to find out where he was. He was en route to ICU. Aparently when they took the ventilator out during recovery he went into A-fib. He had a pretty consistently IRREGULAR heartbeat so they had to try and regulate it with medication. They did! Now he is in ICU under close watch. We will be back on the Solid Organ Transplant Unit in no time!
ReplyDeleteMy poor Bad Ass, what you've done is amazing.
DeleteWe all need a pamper Karen weekend when you return.
Oh lord. Prayers, prayers, prayers in constant rotation for you and Fred. Love you both. Wish I could help.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how you heart isn't beating irregularly! Reading about that made mine skip a beat. Glad to hear he's more stable and hope you both get some rest tonight. Prayers continue. xoxo
ReplyDeleteDear Karen,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry it was not an easier and more seemless day. I don't blame you for the tear fest. That is pretty scary to have the room cleared out without warning. The fact that you have held it together this long is really amazing. Undoubtedly, throughout this time, your strength has kept Fred strong and vice versa.
I wish I could be there to give you guys a hug! For the time being, I am sending all of my prayers and positive wishes your way. Be blessed.
Love,
Saundra
